You have onions in the ingredients but you do not have them in the directions!!!!
Add them when??
Ann – The green onions are an optional garnish – I will update the post. Thank you!
It was so quick and easy. I couldn’t believe how good and tender the beef was! The gravy was awesome too
Great to hear. Thank you!
What is the time and pressure for a 6 qt. Instant Pot? The recipe only specifies for an 8qt. Thanks!
I would use the same time and pressure for a 6 qt Instant Pot as well. Thank you.
Made this tonight it was so good! I did have to cook it for 30 min in my 6 qt IP…this is a keeper!
I need time settings for 8qt instapot and how much water it has 2/3 or 1/2 settings inside silver insert.and what setting I am new to this just cooking beef tips and mashed potatoes seasoned with onion powder and Tony’s.
If you halved the recipe using only 1lb of meat would you cook for less time as well?
No, the cook time would stay the same regardless of the amount. The instant pot will adjust the pressure accordingly. Thank you!
Hi there,
The recipe calls for 1 diced onion. Is this sautéd in the beginning with the beef?
Thank you!
Do the onions get sautéed with the beef?
I still don’t know when to add the “1 onion diced”. Guess I’ll just guess on that? Fingers crossed.
She doesn’t say about when to put the one onion in, but I am putting it with my meat when browning. She does talk about using diced green onion(s) as a garnish when answering in a comment, but I think that green onion is used to sprinkle around on top of meat after cooking. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the great recipe! I love the beef stew one too!!
I’m so sorry for the confusion. I brown the stew meat with the onion before adding in the other ingredients. I have corrected the post and the recipe. Thank you so much!
My family loves this recipe! I make it often and it’s become my go to when I have extra stew meat. It’s so delicious and easy.
Do you mix the cream of mushroom and beef broth in with the beef or just leave it on top unmixed?
I just leave it on the top and then mix it in when it’s done. Thank you!
Just double checking. This recipe is the same cook time with frozen beef?
I would add 5 minutes to the cook time if using frozen beef versus thawed out beef. So I would cook this one on high pressure for 20 minutes with a quick release and you wouldn’t be able to brown at the beginning but I would still taste great!
Several other beef tips recipes use oil to brown the beef. You did not mention oil. Do you brown the beef and onions with or without oil?
Yes, you can add 1 Tbsp of oil to brown the beef in. It depends on how fatty the beef is. If the beef is fatty, than it may not be needed. I usually watch closely and add if it’s sticking to the bottom of the instant pot.
I’m confused. I’m new to this site/club. How do I save this and other recipes to my favorites? And then how do I add things to my grocery list?

So good and simple
We really enjoyed it. Definitely making again!!
Still learning how to use my insta pot , and this recipe was a breeze. It was perfect for our family with no left overs. The meal went together so smoothly and was delicious! Thank you.
Delicious and as always super easy and do-able. Very satisfying even for picky eaters.
This was easy to make and delicious. The gravy was thick and rich and begged to be put over mashed potatoes or rice. I’ve used both and I can’t decide which I like better. I cut the recipe in half because there are only two of us. We enjoyed it for two nights and still had enough left over to share with my neighbor who recently lost his wife. He loved it too. The beef was SO tender. Like melting your mouth tender. I will definitely be making this again.
I made It The Other day. Delicious and easy!! Yum!
This is definitely one of my families favorite go to meals! Easy recipe with big taste! The only problem I have is there are NEVER any leftovers no matter how much I cook!
Definitely recommend.
Thank you Carrie for this absolutely scrumptious recipe!
Awesome!! So easy for me. I hate cooking ?
This recipe has become a family favorite! I have shared this recipe a few times! It is great over mashed potatoes. I do cook it just a few minutes longer because I like my meat to be fall apart tender.
I made this tonight for my family and actually doubled it. Everyone raved for it and all ate seconds. I used the better than Boullion beef, that adds a rich flavor. Also I used venison instead of beef which no one could even tell. I did not use any oil to brown the meat and onions and still turned out perfect. I served this with mashed potatoes. One thing to watch is when adding the cornstarch and water to watch the bubbling and not burn your arm like I did lol.
My family all has requested that I make this again and this will definitely hit the dinner rotation.
Thanks for such an easy, delicious recipe!!
Thank you so much!
This was GREAT!!!! THANK YOU
