Oven baked tacos
You can make one batch… or three without hardly any more work. We just love how easy oven baked tacos are. I love them because they are frugal too.
Now, if you really want to save money, I suggest you use our homemade taco seasoning, because it is much cheaper (and healthier) to make your own. Plus, you can make homemade refried beans without much work too!
Oven baked tacos ingredients:
- Ground Beef
- Rotel Tomatoes and Green Chiles
- Refried Beans or 1 cup of homemade refried beans
- Taco Seasoning or tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning
- Corn Taco Shells
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Your favorite toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, etc.)
How to make Oven Baked Tacos:
Now you can make this delicious meal in the skillet and brown your ground beef. However, if you already have your ground beef browned and frozen like I do, this recipe is even easier.
Just toss the meat, refried beans, taco seasoning, rotel, and maybe a ¼ cup of water in the crock pot and let it cook until you are ready to bake. That would make this easy recipe even easier! 🙂
If you don’t have the ground beef already in the freezer and want to make this in a skillet, just brown and drain the ground beef. Add the refried beans, taco seasoning, rotel, and water.
Mix and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes.
While the meat is simmering, preheat your oven. Fill the taco shells and arrange in a 9×13 baking dish.
Use about half the cheese on the tacos. Bake until cheese is melted.
Garnish with your favorite toppings and the remaining cheese.

Oven Tacos are so versatile!
This easy recipe is so versatile that you can make tons of substitutions and it’ll still taste amazing. You can make this with ground turkey instead of ground beef.
We often mix both together. The ground turkey takes on the taste of ground beef with all of the taco seasonings. This is a big savings and no one even notices.
Black beans are also tasty if you want to try using those instead of refried beans. I also like to use flat bottom tacos to make it easier to arrange them in the pan.
If I’m in a hurry, I usually use whatever I have in my refrigerator or what is on sale at my local grocery store.
I have used salsa instead of rotel tomatoes and the taco mixture was amazing. Just use what you have.
In addition, using different types of salsa can change this recipe quite a bit. For instance, since I’m usually serving kids, I choose a mild salsa that is on sale. However, if you love spicy food, you can substitute this for a spicier salsa.
Also, this recipe would work great with a delicious verde salsa as well. I love cooking with this homemade quick salsa verde de tomatillo recipe.
By shopping when things are on sale I save money on groceries and it really helps our budget.

Hi,
If I am making these for ten adults and four children, would you plan on three tacos each with Spanish rice? I’m planning a family reunion for the end of this month and want to make these! Any help with how much meat etc would be appreciated!
Yes, I usually plan for approximately 3 tacos per adult and 2 for the younger kids. I hope you have a great family reunion!
