Seasoning Variations
This Crock Pot Steak Recipe can be seasoned with a variety of seasoning.
How to Make Steak and Potatoes in the Crockpot

Step 1 – Season the steak cubes with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Step 2 – Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned steak cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer the browned steak to the crockpot.

Step 3 – In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, until fragrant. Transfer the onion and garlic to the crockpot.

Step 4 – Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce into the crockpot. Add the dried thyme and stir to combine. Arrange the halved baby potatoes around the steak in the crockpot.
- Step 5 – Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours, until the steak is tender and the potatoes are cooked through.
- Step 6 – Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
Expert Tips
- Gravy Consistency – If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can remove the steak and potatoes from the crockpot once they’re done cooking, and then whisk together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Stir this mixture into the crockpot and cook on high for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened.
- Cooking Time – If you prefer, you can cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours, but the meat won’t be as tender. Cooking time will vary but we like to cook on low for the best tender steak.
Serving Suggestions
Slow Cooker Steak and Potatoes make mealtime a breeze. You can easily serve as it but we like to add these side dishes for a complete meal idea.

Frequently Asked Questions
Browning steak cubes before adding to the slow cooker is not a require step, we like to because it adds flavor and texture.
We like using sirloin steak, round steak or a chuck roast and cut it into small bite size pieces. You can also use beef stew meat as it is already cut, which will save you a step.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-6 days.
Reheat leftovers in the microwave or place in a baking dish and reheat in a preheated oven at 350 degrees.
The steak will freeze great in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. The potatoes may not turn out as well after thawing.

This was a huge game changer for me as I always made this on the top of the stove. My daughter convinved me to try and I set it and forget about watching the pot. Freedom to do what I need to around the house. The flavor is delicious and the steak and potatoes came out so tender!!
Oh my heck I made this steak and potato in crockpot and my family went nuts over it! I recommend cooking it on low/slow for the most tender fall apart steak you have ever had! The worsteshire sauce and beef broth work so well together to really bring all the best flavors together and the potatoes are just the right softness so they are tender but not mushy! Thank you so much for doing all if these yummy recipes and please keep crankin’ them out!

I loved making this as it was simple yet great tasting. I did use beef stew meat as it saves a step but mostly because it is very versatile and proves just that in this recipe. It came out so tender that it nearly melted in my mouth. The potatoes were also quite delicious. I plan on making this every couple of weeks

I’ve tried your steak bites. A real favorite. I recently tried a casserole with pounds browned hamburger, 32 ounce frozen hashbrowns, A can of cream or mushroom soup and a can of cheddar cheese soup.It made a 9×12 and fed my family of 6. Maybe you can adjust it for a slow cooker?
We love this recipe! The meet is always so tender and delicious! We make this a few or more times a month!
Joanne – Thank you! I’m so glad everyone enjoyed it and it’s on repeat!
This is so good! We have a busy family wedding weekend coming up, and it will be so nice to have this ready to reheat when needed. I added carrots because I had them, but did everything else the same. Easy and tasty recipe!

I haven’t made it yet
Jennifer – Let me know once you try it!
Delish
Thank you for trying it and sharing your feedback!
Can I use canned potatoes?
Mary – I haven’t tested it yet but I think it would work. I do think that the canned potatoes will cook faster than the fresh potatoes so you may want to reduce the cook time in the crock pot so that they don’t get over cooked.
Can I use sweet potatoes instead of the baby potatoes
Yes, sweet potatoes should work great in this recipe. I recommend peeling them and dicing them in large pieces.
Do you have recipes for smaller crock pots 2 quart slow cooker thank you love your shadow I learned a lot
I don’t have any recipes designed specifically for a 2 crock pot except for some of our crock pot appetizer recipes but most of these I would recommend being made in a 4 quart crock pot. This recipe can be made in a smaller crock pot and just use half of the ingredients.
Everything cooked tender and with so much flavor!
