The flavor of this root beer chicken is amazing and we just love how the root bear tastes with Sweet Baby Ray BBQ sauce. That is our favorite around here. We serve it as a sandwich but feel free to serve over some white rice.

The entire meal is just so easy and it helps during a busy week of school, work and activities.

You only need a few easy ingredients to make this simple slow cooker root beer chicken and I bet you already have some of the seasonings in your pantry.

Variations Ideas

  • Root Beer – Feel free to use a diet root beer or a sugar free A&W root beer. This recipe is delicious with any type of root beer brand.
  • Chicken – We usually use chicken breasts to make this recipe but you can also use chicken wings or chicken thighs.
  • BBQ Sauce – Use store bought BBQ sauce or make this Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe.

Step by Step Instructions 

  • Step 1 – First place the chicken breast in the crock pot.
  • Step 2 – Then combine all the dry ingredients (seasonings) together in a small bowl and sprinkle this mixture on each chicken breasts.
  • Step 3 – Next pour over the chicken the Root Beer and barbecue sauce into the crock pot.

  • Step 4 – Then cover and cook on low heat setting for 6-8 hours or cook on high for 3-4 hours. After the cooking time, remove chicken, shred chicken and return it back to the sauce in the crock pot to cook for another 30 minutes.
  • Step 5 – After this time, the chicken is ready to serve on hamburger buns for a delicious sandwich. You could also use slider rolls for parties.

  • Place the chicken breasts in a 6 quarter crock pot. Combine the dry ingredients in a small bowl and sprinkle over the chicken breasts in the crock pot.
  • Pour the Root Beer and barbecue sauce in the crock pot.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Shred the chicken and mix into the sauce in the crock pot.
