We love McDonald’s Big Mac and their famous secret sauce that is spread on the buns. My family also are big fans of sloppy joes. Now we can have two of our favorites combined into one.

We no longer have to go through the fast food drive-thru to get our favorite burger. My family loves that we can make it at home. Also try Big Mac Salad or Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole.

Why This Recipe Works

This sandwich can be made just like you were eating a Big Mac double decker, double the meat and buns and all the toppings.

But we tend to serve it single layered and piled high the sloppy joes in between two buns. We love the extra sauce to top the meat or for dipping in.

How to Make McDonald’s Secret Big Mac Sauce

The Copycat Big Mac Sauce is so easy to make. The ingredients are simple and you probably already have all the ingredients.

Some people have said that it is just a fancy name for Thousand Island Dressing, but that is a tomato base dressing and Big Mac Sauce is not.

The ingredients include:

  • Mayonnaise
  • French Dressing
  • Sweet Pickle Relish
  • White Wine Vinegar
  • Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder (See Best Onion Powder Substitutes)

Ingredients

Ingredients needed - ground beef, onion, salt and pepper, mayonnaise, french dressing, sweet pickle relish, white wine vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder

Variation Ideas

  • Add Shredded Cheese – You can add some shredded cheese or you use slice cheese. If you want a little kick to your sloppy joes, use pepper jack cheese.
  • Change the Protein – You can also use ground turkey or ground chicken, if you didn’t want to use ground beef.
  • Add Worcestershire Sauce – Add to give the sauce a little boost of flavor.

How to Make Big Mac Sloppy Joes

  • Step 1 – Cook the Meat – Brown the ground beef with the chopped onions in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  • Step 2 – Season Ground Beef – Season with the salt and pepper and cook until the beef is fully browned (about 5-7 minutes).  Drain off any excess grease.
  • Step 3 – Combine Sauce Ingredients – Mix the Big Mac sauce ingredients together in a bowl.  Stir well to thoroughly combine these ingredients.  (Check out how to make McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce Recipe)
  • Step 4 – Add Big Mac Sauce to Meat – Mix in 1 cup of the Big Mac Sauce into ground beef mixture in the skillet and save the rest of the sauce for serving.  Cook for 1-2 minutes to heat these ingredients through.
  • Step 5 – Assemble the Sloppy Joes – Then it’s time to assemble the sandwiches.  Spread the extra Big Mac sauce on the bottom bun, top with the shredded lettuce, cheese, onions, pickles and then a scoop of the meat. Then place the top bun on top.
  • Step 6 – Serve warm and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Toast the Buns – When we make these sloppy joes, we always toast our buns in the oven. You can also just heat the hamburger buns up in the oven.
  • Cooking Ground Beef – After cooking the hamburger meat, make sure to drain off any grease.

Can I Use the Big Mac Sauce for anything else?

Yes, there are a lot of uses for Big Mac Sauce. This sauce has become a staple in our refrigerator. Anytime the kids fix them something to eat, they are always dipping it in this sauce. Here are some of our favorites:

How to Store Leftover Sloppy Joes

Big Mac Sloppy is great for leftovers. Just store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. We like to put in individual containers for an easy lunch the next day.

The leftovers will be good for about 3 days. If you want to freeze the leftovers, make sure to put it in a freezer safe container. The sloppy joes will last about 3 months in the freezer.
